Established in the year 2000
Our family-run pub has been a cherished gathering place for musicians, locals, and visitors alike for almost a quarter of a century. Nestled in the heart of Galway City, in The Latin Quarter, we blend traditional Irish music with a warm, welcoming, cosy atmosphere that feels like home!
But before there was a Tig Choili, the premises was first licenced in 1905. Little is known about the kind of public house it was back then, but the premises did go on to become one of Galway’s first cocktail bars in the 1960s, known at the time as The Genoa.
The story of Tig Choili began when a Claddagh native with Connemara roots, Colie O Flaherty, had a vision of creating a pub where friends and family could come together to enjoy great Traditional Irish Music, Good conversation, and the best of Irish Hospitality. Over the years, the pub has developed while remaining the same, with our core values of quality Music, authenticity, community, and family remaining unchanged!
Each corner of the pub tells a story, and photos adorn the walls, celebrating memorable sessions with musicians that made us what we are today. Most photos were captured by Colie himself!
Tig Choili is a hands-on family-run pub, with some great musicians of their own!… who will often be playing themselves in the sessions when not needed behind the bar!
